All champion outfits require a coach to take them to their destination, their triumph and their trophy, if you look at the champions of individual sports; this would be all the more evident.
Similarly, Executives and Managers also require coaching to manifest outstanding performances consistently that every company demands. Any “outstanding performance” is not automatic – it doesn’t fall from the sky. The executives or managers may be some of the best experts in their own domains but still they are human beings in blood and flesh, they have their fears, their insecurities and limiting beliefs which must be conquered – otherwise the outstanding performance that is desired is not going to come.
The challenges for these people are mostly that many are in high positions, they have their positional egos and hence they feel very vulnerable to share their weaknesses publicly or share at all and life goes on in the same routine manner. They learn to mask and perennially cover up their mistakes, weaknesses etc. and as a result these weaknesses do not get addressed and when situations come, they are most terrifyingly exposed. Yet, they still continue to cover up the mistakes and continue to live life in a mask.
Why coaching is preferred
Coaching takes place in a safe confidential environment where the coachee feels very safe to share his /her weaknesses, challenges etc. freely and transparently. The role of the coach is to help the coachee identify the road blocks and empower, motivate him/her to take daring actions. The coach/coachee relationship is one of trust, transparency and accountability. This is how the coachees gradually get to change certain attitudes, behaviors, actions etc. and ultimately the outcomes are reached.
Executive Reinvention is a ground breaking method where your employees can actually develop and blossom into extraordinary leaders. Normally, an organization identifies a set of executives or managers who they intend to develop as part of their leadership pipeline—this could also be a part of their succession plan. They are then “Assessed” to ascertain where, at each level, they are currently. The assessment exercise is about helping the organization and the individual under reference to know where they stand currently based on certain identified competencies – what are their strengths, weaknesses and development areas. The assessment exercise is carried out in many ways like there could be a mix of psychometric tests, leaderless group discussions, behavioral event interviews, in basket exercises etc.
